This Blue, Pink Colouring Tutorial will explain how to alter your images and the colours you currently have.
This effect brightens your current exposure and also alters the image colours to a more blue and pink feel. Depending on the colours of the photograph/image you end up using, it can vary as to what the effect ends up looking like.
Once you know how to do this you’ll end up tweaking it to suit your image, and discover new things in Photoshop.

Dramatic Effect Tutorial - The Steps
- Firstly open up the image you want to use for this tutorial, if you don’t know how check this tutorial out.
- Now download this selective colouring file and then go -> Layer -> New Adjustment Layer -> Selective Color -> Load -> Locate your newly downloaded file -> press Load -> OK again.
- Download this selective colouring file and then go -> Layer -> New Adjustment Layer -> Selective Color when the first box appears change the “Normal” drop down menu to “Soft light” - then press OK, another box will appear, then select Load -> Locate your newly downloaded file -> press Load -> OK again.
- Go into the toolbar, select LAYER -> NEW FILL LAYER -> SOLID COLOR… when the first box appears change the “Normal” drop down menu to “Pin light” - then press OK, another box will appear, the colour box - at the bottom you’ll see 6 digits, change them to 4763b3- then press OK
- Now you need to duplicate your layer, to do that, click on the base layer in your Layers Palette, then go -> Layer -> Duplicate Layer. You’ll see that in your layers palette another layer has appeared, left click on it and drag it to the top so it’s above all of your other lays. Then find the ‘Normal’ drop down menu, and select ‘Screen’.
- OK, now you need to download this selective colouring file and then go -> Layer -> New Adjustment Layer -> Selective Color -> Load -> Locate your newly downloaded file -> press Load -> OK again.
- As you may have noticed, a lot of steps in this tutorial are pretty similar, but don’t worry. Download this selective colouring file and then go -> Layer -> New Adjustment Layer -> Selective Color…. when the first box appears change the “Normal” drop down menu to “Soft light” - then press OK, another box will appear, then select Load -> Locate the Selective Coloring file you downloaded on this step -> press Load -> OK again.

This Selective Colouring Tutorial will explain how to enhance a select, specific colour(s) on each individual photograph.
You can alter the colours in your image by deepening them, altering the actual colour to something else, dulling them etc. You can do pretty much anything with them. In Photoshop it’s very easy to use Selective Colouring on any image, it’s just knowing how!
Below I have attempted to explain what tool to use and the easiest way of using it. If however you struggle and would like some help, please do leave a comment below or contact us.

Selective Colouring Tutorial - The Steps
- Firstly open up the image you want to use for this tutorial, if you don’t know how check this tutorial out.
- Once that’s done, go into -> Layer -> New Adjustment Layer -> Selective Color…
- So, at the moment you should have the Selective Coloring window open, click here, you’ll see that I’ve highlighted certain settings in Red, make sure your settings are exactly the same
- Once that’s done, you’ll see at the top of the window there’s a ‘Colors’ drop down menu, if you click on it, you’ll see a this.
- If you’ve got a lot of Green in your photograph, and you want to change the type of green it is, then you hit the ‘Colors’ drop down menu I was showing you before and select Green. Then below you’ll see four scroll bars, all you need to do is move them to the left or right, play around with the settings.
- The same goes for all the other colours in the drop down menu.
- The same goes for all the other colours in the drop down menu. The White, Grey & Black pretty much change the effect on every image, so it’s always good to have a play with those. Yellow also changes Green, and Red changes not only red, but orange/yellow. The only way to be sure is to try it out yourself and see what happens.

This type of color effect helps in many ways. Improving your knowledge of Photoshop, learning new things and this exact effect is extremely useful when you have dull images that need sprucing up.
Once you know how to do this you’ll end up tweaking it to suit your image, and discover new tools in photoshop.

Color Effects Tutorial - The Steps
- First off, duplicate your layer. To do that go, -> Layer -> Duplicate Layer… or you can use the shortcut: CTRL + J
- Now go -> Filter -> Other -> High Pass - Now change the radius to 10 - Once you’ve done that, go to your Layers Pallet and change the drop down menu from “Normal” to “Softlight”
- Now go -> Layer -> New Fill Layer -> Solid Color… a little box will appear, change the drop down menu from “Normal” to “Softlight” and press OK - then another box will appear, change the colour code to this one: 74b1a
- Now go -> Layer -> New Fill Layer -> Gradient - when the little box appears change the opacity to Overlay - then press OK. And this will appear - although it won’t look like that. You now need to change your settings so they match min

Old Photo Effect Tutorial - The Steps
- Firstly, duplicate your layer. -> Layer -> Duplicate Layer or the handy shortcut CTRL/Control + J

Take a look at this screenshot change your settings so they match mine. Don’t worry about the actual gradient bit at first. Once you’ve changed all the settings then click on the gradient strip, another box will appear, change the first gradient color to 000000 and then the second to FFFFFF

Enhanced Color Tutorial - The Steps
- I suggest downloading the same image I’m using, only it’ll be bigger than the previews above. You need to download the image without any effects… so download this.
- Start off by going into the toolbar at the top in Photoshop and select LAYER, then select NEW ADJUSTMENT LAYER, then select BRIGHTNESS/CONTRAST… a little box should come up asking you to name the layer (note this box might not come up & it might take you straight to the brightness/contrast settings), just click OK. Then set the brightness to +48, leave the contrast set to 0. Click OK.You should notice that your images brightness has now changed slightly.
- Now go into Photoshop and go upto the toolbar again and select LAYER, then select NEW FILL LAYER, then select SOLID COLOR… Like on the last step, a little box might pop up asking you to name the layer, just click OK (note that the box might not pop up for everyone - if it doesn’t, just carry on with the steps)… fill the color with 5E88BC. Look at mine! Now once that’s done, go to your layers pallet and select the TOP layer and then find the drop down menu which displays “Normal”. Change ‘normal’ to ‘lighten’.
- Next you need to download a texture, so download this. Then open that up in Photoshop, copy it by using the following shortcut CTRL/Command + C then click on the image you’ve been adding effects to and paste it CTRL/Command + V. (using your keys on your keyboard again) Then find your layers pallet and select the TOP layer and then find the drop down menu which displays “Normal”. Change ‘normal’ to ‘overlay’.
- This step is very similar to the one above - download this. Then open that up in Photoshop, copy it by using the following shortcut CTRL/Command + C then click on the image you’ve been adding effects to and paste it CTRL/Command + V. (using your keys on your keyboard again) Then find your layers pallet and select the TOP layer and then find the drop down menu which displays “Normal”. Change ‘normal’ to ‘lighten’.

Vintage Effect Tutorial - The Steps
- For this tutorial I would suggest you use the image I have used - download it!
- Assuming you’ve downloaded the image I’ve used I’m going to ask you to open it in Photoshop and continue read…
- Firstly make sure you have your “Layers” section - Look at mine! If you don’t have it then press F7 on your keyboard - or go -> Window -> Layers (Window can be located along the top of your computer, along side File & Edit - make sure you are in Photoshop though)
- Assuming you have Layers, I want you to look at it closely and hopefully you’ll see three miniature tabs: Layers, Channels, Paths - Photoshp automatically has it set to Layers - Please click ‘Channels’.You should now see this - once you’ve got the same as I have, please click on the one called blue and then select all (Mac users: Command/Apple + A Window users: CTRL + A) - you should see little running ants/dotted lines going around the image. Once you’ve got that, please copy the image - (Mac users: Command/Apple + C Window users: CTRL + C)
- Once you’ve copied the image then please press CTRL/Command + D - you’ll notice the running ants/dotted lines have disappeared. Then please click on the very top layer in your Layers section - the one that’s coloured - You’ll notice your image has gone back into colour - Your layers will look like this.

- Now we have to do the same all over again… go -> Layers -> New Fill Layer -> Solid Layer - in the little box that appears change the mode to Softlight and Opacity to 22% - then when the colour box appears add the colour FFABE8
- And that’s it. With the two coloured layers you can always lower or raise the opacity to give it a different feel.

Improving your knowledge of Photoshop, learning new things and this exact effect is great if you want to alter the colour of your image - as an example this has turned blue ish, but once you get to grips with this you will likely end up tweaking it to suit your own image.

Picture Coloring Tutorial - The Steps
- First off… duplicate your first layer twice. To do this go -> Layer -> Duplicate Layer… or use the shortcut, CTRL/Command + J - whatever you do, do it twice. And then go to your layers pallet, select the first duplicated layer, locate the drop down menu which says “Normal” and change it to “Multiply”.
- Then select the second duplicated layer and change that from “Normal” to “Screen”.
- Now go -> Layers -> New Layer fill -> Solid color - a small box will appear, find the “normal” drop down menu, change that to “Soft Light”, press OK - another box will appear, change the colour to this: db93f3
- Now go -> Layers -> New Layer fill -> Solid color - a small box will appear, find the “normal” drop down menu, change that to “Color Burn”, then find the opacity, and change that to 71% then press OK - another box will appear, change the colour to this: 95cbf5
- Now go -> Layers -> New Layer fill -> Solid color - a small box will appear, find the “normal” drop down menu, change that to “Soft Light”, press OK - another box will appear, change the colour to this: e5f59b
- Download this file save it somewhere and then do the following…
- Next go -> Layers -> New Adjustment Layers -> Curves -> Load… -> find your file and click OK!
- Now… see your three colour layers?! Duplicate each layer (that has a colour in it) so you should end up with 6 layers. To do that, click one of them and go CTRL/Command + J
- Then one by one drag each colour to the top, 1 purple, 1 blue & 1 yellow, it should look like this now I want you to look at your top layer and change the opacity to 50%
- Then go to the purple layer and change that opactiy to 50%. And you’re done!
