Scribbled Text in Photoshop Tutorial
June 29, 2008
This Scribbled Text in Photoshop Tutorial will simply explain how to make scribbly looking text.
Sometimes you want to alter your text but it doesn’t quite look right - I’ve found lots of ways to alter the text so it looks completely different. In this tutorial I’ll explain how to alter your settings to get the below look - this type of text is great on lots of graphics, we tend to use these types a lot.
Once you know how to alter your settings you’ll be able to do all sorts of things with different fonts etc.

Scribbled Text in Photoshop Tutorial - The Steps
- First of all, download this font, Pea Steph (but for some reason when you download it, it shows as "Steph Pea" in Photoshop for me, but to make things complicated it shows as "Pea Steph"… so I suggest checking both.
- Now open Photoshop, and then make a new canvas: -> File -> New pick something like 350 x 150 (pixels)
- Select your font tool - to get it, press T on your keyboard. Then go -> Window -> Character (’Window’ is alone the top next to File, Edit, Image etc - if by any chance the ‘character’ option has a tick next to it, don’t click it!)
- Now go to your character options and change them so they match mine. Here is mine.
- Now, making sure you’re still using the text tool (to check, press T again) click on the canvas and start to write something. Because I didn’t know what to write, I found a quote by E.E Cummings which you can use as a test - did move it around a bit so it looked more pretty rather than how it reads.
- "To be nobody but yourself - in a world which is doing its best,
night and day, to make you like everybody else -
means to fight the hardest battle
which any human being can fight -
and never stop fighting."
- Hopefully you should now have exactly what I have in the above image - but you won’t have a purple glow - to do that you need to read this tutorial on "Outer Glow"

Outer Glow in Photoshop Tutorial
June 29, 2008
This Outer Glow in Photoshop Tutorial will simply explain how to use the glow options in Photoshop.
Sometimes I want to add a pretty, soft glow to my text, brush, shape or anything else I’m making, it took me some time to tweak the settings so that it looks pretty rather than overpowering; it’s a great effect but can often not get used or if it does it can look horrible.
The glowing options in photoshop are very simple, but can look wonderful on dark backgrounds when tweaked.

Scribbled Text in Photoshop Tutorial - The Steps
- First of all, if you want to create the same text like I have in this image, please read this tutorial.
- So, create a canvas -> File -> New - make sure it’s white and around 300 x 150px and then select your text tool (press T), then click on your canvas, write something and follow the next step.
- Now go -> Layer -> Layer Style -> Outer Glow - change your settings so that they match my own: look at them here!
- Once you’ve matched your settings to mine you can then play with them so they suit your text more - change the colour and so forth. Also, if you want to add the glowing effect on a dark background, then change the drop down menu from "Normal" to "Overlay" - play around and you’ll be amazed what you can do.
